SPEAKING OF: SYMPOSIUMS
2024 – Ongoing

A recurring symposium exploring key topics in design, sustainability, and community. Launched in 2024, the series brings together leading voices within academia and industry for focused discussions on pressing issues. Each event explores the intersection of craft, technology, and society, opening up new perspectives on how design can shape the world around us.

Join to hear ideas, meet role models, and engage in conversations that challenge and expand your own thinking. Whether you’re curious, critical, or creative, the symposium creates space to reflect, connect, and be inspired alongside others.

Past symposiums

Previous editions of Speaking of: have explored themes such as Design Ethics, Textiles, and Food Systems — each unpacking different aspects of how materials, production, and systems shape the way we design.

Across these symposiums, we’ve brought together a mix of designers, researchers, and practitioners working at the intersection of craft, industry, and sustainability. The programme has featured contributors such as Marion de St Blanquat from Studio Coquille, Dehlia Hannah on her Blackout: A Manifesto, emerging designer Mads Barfod, Sara Diaz from Hilo Textiles, and Kirsti Reitan, alongside organisations like Slow Forest Coffee, Endless Food Company and Eat Wasted.

Together, these voices have contributed to ongoing conversations around circular practices, material innovation, and alternative production models, grounded in real-world experience and experimentation.
